Question:

Solders in Iraq, why do some complain?

There was no draft that I heard of that forced people into Iraq, so why are people making this war look like a big draft? I mean, when you enter the army you know that at any time a war could start and you could be shipped off to Iraq. So why do some people still complain, the solders know that they could be in Iraq for only a couple months or maybe even a couple years.

  1. They shouldn't complain. I've never complained. I loved deployments. You don't join the military and not expect to be deployed if something goes down. The people who complain are babies... and I can say that, because I've walked the walk.

  2. I am complaining because it seems a bit odd that despite modern technology soldiers have to overcome obstacles to make a phone call to their families. I am complaining because companies like AT&T profit of the needs of the soldiers and their families. I am complaining because politicians talk the talk but won't walk the walk. I am complaining because the reason we are in the military is because of the lousy social security system in the States and an education system that charges ridiculous prices for tuition (and the quality of education is seriously lacking considering what you're paying). Health care is in shambles ... and you are asking why some complain? Well, there's your answer.

  3. Yeah...d**n those men and women that have every right to complain as they and their friends are being killed in what is compareable only to h**l.  They should quite their bickering...

Listen, I don't care who you vote for or what your political beliefs (judging by your rant, I figure politics isn't your forte') are, but one thing you ALWAYS do as an American: Support Our Troops.  If anyone in this country has the right to complain...it's them.

  4. it's human nature.  in any  group,  there will always be complainers.

in their defense,  being away from home , in a place like iraq,

    has to be miserable.

    -----------------

    since you clarified the Q.

people complain because they were misled.  they were told that the war would last weeks.  that we would be welcomed.  that iraqi oil would pay for the war.  that saddam had wmd's.  and many other things.

5 years , 4500 lives, and 1 trillion dollars later,  the job is still not done.

  5. Watch STOP LOSS movie.  Wouldn't YOU complain if you had to go back for your THIRD time?  At 12 - 15 month tours each?

Stop Loss is a back door draft as far as some of us are concerned.

I bet you're a civilian with no clue what is going on over there.

  6. firstly I don't know who you're talking to that thinks this is a big draft but we all know our jobs and we get it done.  I'm not gonna say without complaining because it is everyone's God given right to complain about whatever they want, especially when that something is getting shot at and blown up everyday.  Yes we know that part of the job is going to war, but show one person in America who doesn't complain about some aspect of there job and I will withdraw this answer right now.

  7. Lots of people complain about their jobs and they signed on for them. That's even worse becaue you or I can leave our job at any moment, sodliers are locked into a contract. I'd be upset if I signed on for the military now and then got someone like the Democratic nominee as President. I would go sit the rest of my contract out in jail before I served under him.

  8. First off, I hate the whole "he chose that life" argument.

Aren't you glad that some people have the courage and integrity to enlist to defend this nation and risk their lives in the process?

    Cause that ain't you!

Where would we be if the whole country was made up of goons who sat back and did nothing but complain?  Thank a soldier before you criticize him for doing something you can't or won't do yourself and needs to be done.

Second, have you heard of stop loss? It's when a soldier has completed his or her commitment to the Army and the Army decides to overlook their contractual obligation and force that soldier to train and deploy, extended their time in service by 18 months.

The Marine's who were just extended this week expected to be home in October. They didn't KNOW they'd be held over.

I think that you should enlist. Seriously.Ifr you are that concerned about the morale of soldiers and the war in Iraq I think you should sign up and go yourself. 4,000+ spots just opened up.

  9. Why do Conservatives refuse to account for themselves and instead become fatalistic when they s***w up, i.e. "oh well, it was meant to be",  "oh well, the soldiers knew when they joined the service that they could be killed in combat". Conservatives can't stand to be perceived as irresponsible so they chalk their incompetence up to fate.

  10. Soldiers signed up to defend this nation

They didnt sign up to go over there to protect the oil so Exxon can steal it

  11. "It must be more than mildly annoying knowing you're employed by a bunch of homicidal chicken hawks, who happen to own a lot of oil stock. Or to know that said chickens are also employing private soldiers for 100,000-200,000 USD to do the same job, or to get recycled over and over again for the same non-war, or to feel a little left out to find that the only way to get a truck armored is to pay for it yourself. It's almost as if the administration really didn't care.
