Question:

Soldiers painting rifles

I am constantly seeing pictures of soldiers in Afghanistan, as well as other places, with their rifles spray painted tan, or with some camouflage pattern. I understand why they do it, but is this an accepted practice, or is it kind of frowned upon by higher-ups?

Thanks you.

  1. IT'S ACCEPTED

  2. Generally, any painting of weapons is prohibited.  The average soldier is not allowed to spray paint his weapon but IS allowed to camouflage his weapon with other natural or even man-made items like sticks and leaves.

Painting weapons makes the weapon susceptible to jamming which is never a good thing.

...weapons can come in a variety of colors to match the desired environment.   Usually these paint jobs are not done by the lay soldier.  And those you've seen do this to their weapon are sure to pay for any and all damage done by paint.
