Sole Power finished fifth in the listed race yet again, as Inxile claims the spoils at Tipperary in the Abergwaun
The Edward Lynam trained 4-year-old bay gelding Sole Power was sent as the second favourite to win the listed race Abergwaun Stakes, but was unable to land the prep race before he gets down to business to defend his title in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes
at York on 19 August, 2011.
The 6-year-old bay gelding, Inxile, trained by David Nicholls won the 5 August, 2011, Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary. The bay gelding gave his all in the Tipperary meet to defeat the fellow British runner Move In Time, who came in second in a hard fought
race.
The Abergwaun Stakes is run at a distance of five furlongs and feature colts and gelding of the age of 2 year olds and above, the ground was good to firm.
Sole Power on the other hand had no impression on the race as he dwelt in the beginning and after the 2 furlongs mark, got mixed in the middle between the horses and still couldn’t deliver a final blow to challenge the leaders.
Sole Power who was ridden by W M Lordan used the Abergwaun Stakes as an ultimate prep race going into the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes last year, he finished fifth on the occasion as well and repeated the same performance this time around.
He ran along the fence maintaining constant pace without threatening the leaders at any point in the race. As they went off from the gates the race got split into two groups, and the Adrian Nicholls ridden gelding, Inxile performed the pace setting duties,
as he set a strong pace on the far side of the rail.
Inxile was sent at 4 to 1 odds, and was shaken up by Adrian Nicholls for father David Nicholls, as the six-year-old bolted through and through to win the race by 2 lengths over British runner Move In time.
The victory made owner David Nicholls proud, fair play to the horse really as he has been to Dubai France, England and now in Ireland producing the goods where ever he goes.
