Solheim Cup and Curtis Cup: Europeans struggle to gain momentum
European players are struggling to gain momentum at Solheim Cup and Curtis Cup, as they say that they desperately want to put an end to United States’ ascendency in the two prestigious events.
Solheim Cup, a biennial event that pits teams of the United States and Europe, is one of the most prestigious tournaments in women’s golf.
However, Europe has not been able to gain much attention in the Cup, as it has won only 4 events out of the total 12 played so far.
Curtis Cup is a little different when it comes to team formation. The Cup pits the teams of the United States and Great Britain & Ireland.
Out of the total 36 events played so far, Great Britain & Ireland has been able to win only 8 — a factor that has been taking a serious toll on the spirits of the European players.
On the other hand, analysts have pointed out that the Curtis Cup has started to seem like the Presidents Cup, in which, United States appears to be in a stronger position than Europe.
Despite facing a series of defeats in Solheim Cup, European players are happy that they were able to win the 2011 edition. Players said that they have now set their sights on the 2013 Cup, as they gained new vigour after beating the invincible United States.
The 2013 Solheim Cup will be staged at the Colorado Golf Club next year. Golf fans in Europe were extremely thrilled after the triumph in the 2011 edition.
They said that it reminded them of the 2012 Ryder Cup, in which, European male counterparts defeated the United States.
Winning the last event held at Killeen Castle, Ireland helped European stars end the 3-year victory drought — something that has given them hope that they can beat the Unite States despite its solid field.
According to sources close to the European squad, there are plenty of competent players being considered for the roster. Analysts said that Christel Boeljon of Netherlands can be an important asset for the European side.
Boeljon played in the Solheim Cup for the first ever in 2010, and was confident enough to do her best on the course.
Analysts said that the field for the 2013 edition may see heavy representation of rookies. Azahara Munoz of Spain and English Melissa Reid are among the possible candidates.
Suzann Pettersen said that she is confident about European rookies. She said, "I think this is the best European team I've been a part of. I think overall we have a very consistent team. I think you look at our rookies. I don't look at them as rookies".

Pettersen said that the rookies have performed amazingly well in their matches. "They've all been out on the main Tours and done well and they've all won".
