Solheim Cup receives nine bids to host the 2015 edition
While the venues for the 2011 and 2013 editions of the Solheim Cup are confirmed, the site for the 2015 event is yet to be decided upon. But there doesn’t seem to be any lack of interest
as nine courses around the world have declared an interest in hosting the event in five years time.
While three of the golf courses chose to remain anonymous, the remaining six include two in Germany, two in Spain, one in Britain, and one in the Czech Republic. Mark Casey, Director of
Operations for the Ladies’ European Tour and the Solheim Cup, was encouraged by the response.
"In 2006, we received bids from seven nations for the 2011 matches, so this is a step forward, re-emphasising the development of the event and ladies' professional golf throughout Europe,"
he told reporters.
The Spanish courses are the La Manga resort in Murcia and the Costa del Sol in Andalusia while Germany submitted bids for the Gut Kaden Golf und Land Club in Hamburg and the Sport and
Spa Resort A-ROSA near Berlin. The Prosper Golf Resort in Celadna was the Czech submission while Britain entered the Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort in North Lincolnshire.
"Having nine parties showing an interest in this proves what a valuable tournament it is,” said Chris Cottam, the general manager of Forest Pines. "It is a global tournament which we have
always said would reposition Scunthorpe in the long term and can only be good for the region. We are still extremely confident that the bid we submitted is of the highest quality and is in-depth, touches all parts of our region and all age categories."
The Ryder Cup-style event pits the best European women golfers against the best of the LPGA Tour in three days of competition. The event, which combines foursomes, fourballs, and singles
matches, will take place at Killeen Castle Golf Resort in Ireland in 2011 before moving to Colorado Golf Club in Colorado in 2013. The biennial event first began in 1990 and alternates between American and European venues.
