Question:

Solidworks to autocad?

I have been looking around for a way to convert a solidwords drawing to an autocad drawing. I can find anything, Any help would very appreciated.

  1. If it is a solid model then save the SolidWorks out as an ACIS (.sat) file.  You may have to click on the 'Options' button in the save menu to change back to an older version of ACIS (i.e. version 7) depending on what AutoCAD package you are using.  Then within AutoCAD type in 'acisin' and find the file.  If it gives you an error, then you will probably have to save the ACIS out as an older version in SolidWorks and try it again.  If it is a drawing then save it out as either a .dwg or .dxf and open it in AutoCAD.  Another option is to see if AutoCAD has XchangeWorks (I think it is called) which will automatically convert it over.


  2. I'm not 100% sure. But I think (with SolidWorks) you can save it as a different file type which is compatible with AutoCAD.
