Men’s Doubles trophy of Carebaco International Championships belonged to Solis Jonathan-Rodolfo Ramirez as they overwhelmed William Cabrera-Freddy Lopez on Sunday, August 26, 2012.
This epic 42-minute tussle was staged at Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and prolonged to three gruelling sets before ending with final figures of 17-21, 21-7 and 21-9.
The Guatemala campaigners did not take off well but still they managed to have a smooth flight to victory in the ending two games.
Meanwhile, the local team squandered their early advantage and failed to go with the same flow in crucial moments of the battle.
William and Freddy showed superb coordination in the opening game and clinched the very first match point with distinction.
They made their intentions clear by launching a brisk attack and dominating the overall pace of rallies. They gained an immediate lead with some consecutive points and maintained this slight edge until mid-game break.
Though, they made some fatal mistakes in the third quarter of the set but still they put a laudable effort and reinstated their dominance.
The twosome of Solis and Rodolfo made every effort to catch their rivals but they had to give up this futile chase after reading 17-21 score on the board.
However, they did not lose heart after this loss and made amends in the very next game. They displayed commendable fighting spirit and blew away their challengers with a gutsy performance.
This time they played with an authoritative approach and kept the opposing team at the lower end all the way to game point situation.
The Guatemala shuttlers started the beating right from the first stroke and did not stop until they sealed the victory with a huge difference of 14 points.
They laid the foundation of their supremacy by placing an indomitable total of 11 in the first half and then magnified the impact with an overwhelming margin of 21-7.
With this development, the local crowd was expecting native shuttlers to bounce back with a strong reply.
However, the decider proved replay of second set as William and Freddy failed to come out of their challengers’ influence and lost the title with a shameful 21-9 defeat.
