Soll’s victory helps Willie Mullins rush to fastest century of victories
Soll’s victory at the N. I. Hotels Federation Beginners Chase helped trainer, Willie Mullins, complete the fastest century of winners in Ireland. He also held the same record for the domestic winners back in 2010.
The race at Down Royal attracted 10 entries, but no one was able to challenge Soll in the end. He was given a starting price of 2 to 5 by the bookmakers, and he lived up to his reputation at the end of the day.
This was only Soll’s second entry in a chase event, and he did not disappoint his trainer and jockey, Ruby Walsh, who has been enjoying a lot of success this season.
The seven-year-old horse looked promising in his maiden chase event as well, finishing runner up by just a neck’s distance to Son Amix. This performance helped him gain the confidence of the bookmakers, thus he started yesterday’s race as the favourite.
Soll had begun the Down Royal chase positively, and did not allow any other horse to challenge him until the end. He led from the start and kept on increasing his speed as the race progressed.
The triumphant horse completed the race four and a half lengths ahead of the runner up, Harpsy Cord, who had a starting price of 11 to 2.
This victory was quite pleasing for Mullins, who has had a fabulous time this season. He has got some very good horses and aims to continue his winning run in the future events as well.
The veteran trainer stated, “It's great for the whole team. It's really down to us being fortunate enough to have such good quality horses.”
He further went onto say that the performances this season have not been a surprise for him, as he was expecting such dominance at the start of this year. He hoped that things continue like the way they have been going for the past few months.
The record holding trainer added, “I thought at the start of the season that it could be the best year we've ever had, if everything stayed together and most of it has. Hopefully, the horses will stay healthy and keep winning.”
