Sollys Nestle Osasco defeats Chang Bangkok by 3-1: FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship
Sollys Nestle Osasco of Brazil had a match with Chang Bangkok of Thailand during the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship on October 9th. The tournament is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar and is pinning some of the best clubs
from around the world against each other
Four thrilling sets were seen, at the end of which the Brazilians found themselves on the winning end. The first set of the match was dominated by the Brazilians all through but the Thai club gave them tough competition in the second set but failed to bag
a win. Starting the third set with a 2-0 deficit, the Thai were able to step up their game and avoid a clean sweep. However, the Brazilians did play the fourth set impressively and overcame the strong challenge put up by the Thai club in order to win the match
at the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-21, 24-26 and 26-24.
The coach of the Sollys Nestle Osasco club, Luizomar Moura, made the following comments at the press conference after the match had reached its close: “I am very happy with the performance of my team. The opponent has strong players. It is considered a great
experience to our players to play against an Asian team. My team played without five important players who are competing in the Pan American Games.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Chang Bangkok club, K. Radchatagriengaki, shared his feelings in the following manner: “Congratulation for the two teams. We played four sets and the score was near in all of the sets. I am happy this year because we improved
much more than the last year. I wish good luck for us and the Brazilian team in this competition.”
The start of the first set saw the Brazilians take the lead at 4-1, an advantage that they were able to extend to 7-3. The Thai club was able to close in the gap at 19-14 but the Brazilians eventually prevailed in bagging the opening set at 25-17. The second
set went on the same pattern as the first set with the Thai trying a little harder this time but it still did not get them a win as the Brazilians took the second set at 25-21.
The Thai responded with force in the third set and got the win at 26-24 but the Brazilians were able to repay the favour by securing the fourth set at 26-24.
Overall, the Brazilians were able to outperform the Thai club in blocking skills. Brazil had 25 blocks whereas the Thai could only manage nine. The Brazilians were better than the Thai not only in the defence side but also the serving. The Brazilians managed
six service aces while Chang Bangkok came up with only two.
