Solomon Island eyeing on the OFC Futsal Cup: Futsal News
The Solomon Island will be defending its title at the 2011 Oceanic Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal Championship. They will be eyeing on the Cup to qualify for the FIFA Futsal Cup going to be held at Thailand next year.
Dickson Kadau the coach of the Solomon Island also known as Kurukuru said, “We are the defending champions and everybody will want to defeat us. Our job is to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
The Solomon Island will be striving hard this time as they want to qualify for the upcoming FIFA event.
The Tahiti team is featuring in the eight edition of the championship. They are in high spirits as their compatriots won the Oceania title in February. They will be facing the underdogs Tuvalu. Vanuatu will be facing the debut team of the championship Kiribati.
The most interesting match to look out for will be played amongst, defending champions Kurukuru and the New Caledonia Futsal team. The Kurukuru squad will be looking for make a positive start in their first match.
The Solomon Island has won the championship three times and has also represented the OFC region at the 2008 FIFA Futsal Championship. They will be looking forward for a straight four title.
A win in the first match either it is for Kurukuru or Solomon Island will be a positive boost for t he players and it will support them to maintain their winning pace.
The captain of the Kurukuru squad Elliot Ragomo said, “He is optimistic that the boys will scoop the title again. He said the boys all have matured and will make a big difference in the World Cup if they return which is their main focus at the moment.”
The New Zealand squad is also well prepared for the championship this year, as they have come out with a very strong team. Most of the players on the New Zealand Futsal squad have featured in the New Zealand national Futsal league.
The matches will start today at Fiji and will conclude on May 20, 2011.
