Solomon Island takes down Vanuatu by 13-1: 2011 OFC Futsal Championship

Solomon Island made it to the finals of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal Championship by beating Vanuatu, 13-1. This will be the fourth final the Kurukuru will be playing in and they will be hoping to win the title for the fourth time. The
semi-final against Vanuatu was played at the Vodafone Arena Suva, Fiji.
The coach of the Solomon Island squad, Dickson Kadau, was very happy with his team’s performance and said, “I am very proud of my boys, we have worked very hard for this tournament and that is now showing through. We played even better than I thought we
might - the combinations between our players were at a very high level. We must respect Tahiti because they are very good defensively and we only beat them 1-0 earlier in the tournament. We're work on our attacking and some of our moves to try to find a way
around their system”.
The other team to reach the finals is Tahiti. The Tahitians reached the finals by defeating New Zealand’s Futsal Whites in the semi-finals. The match remained level until the end of the extra time. The result was decided on a penalty shoot-out.
The Kururkuru is the strongest contender of the title and are heavy favourites for a place in the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup which is going to be held in Thailand. None of the teams have yet managed to match the skill and game play of the Kurukuru squad.
They ended the hopes of Vanuatu squad to qualify for the mega Futsal event.
The Kurukuru annihilated Tuvalu by 16-0 in the group rounds. In the semi-finals the Kurukuru squad was leading by 8-0 until the half-time whistle. They scored five more goals in the second half of the match. The Vodafone arena was packed with over 2000 spectators
and they all were delighted with the performance of the Kurukuru squad.
The captain of the Kurukuru, Elliot Ragomo once again scored a hat-trick. Micah Lea'alafa and Moffat Sikwa'ae from the Solomon Islands also joined him and scored hat-tricks for the Solomon Islands. Coleman Makau tried to catch up with his team-mates on the
goal card but he ended up with two goals of his own. Jack Wetney scored another goal for the Kurukuru side. Ricky Tuigaloa wrapped up the score card for the Solomon Island.
Fredy Vava scored the sole goal from the Vanuatu end just after half-time.
It will be a very tough competition for the Tahiti to take down the defending champions Solomon Islands on the last day of action. The final will be played on May 20 at the Vodafone Arena.
