The Solomon Islands annihilated Tuvalu 16-0 to win the final match of the group rounds of the 2011 Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship.
The Solomon Islands have already qualified for the semi-finals on the second day of the championship.
Tuvalu went down with a disappointing score of 1-11 against New Caledonia. The Kuru Kuru were in full mood to give their fans a chance to applaud their performance.
Elliot Ragomo proved to be the only dominant goal scorer from the Kuru Kuru squad. He scored two goals in the first half of the match followed by five more goals in the second half. He has been adding a lot of goals for Solomon Islands in the three matches
they have played until now. His remarkable performances have made him the finest Futsal player in the Oceania.
James Egeta, Samuel Osifelo, Coleman Makau, Micah Lea’alafa, Moffat Sikwa’ae and Jack Wetney added goals on the score sheet from the Kuru Kuru side.
The coach of the Kuru Kuru squad Dickson Kadau expressed his views on the win and said, “It was important to win because we have topped the pool now. We have had our ups and downs over the tournament so far but I have been happy with the results. It is a
cliché but we are just going to take one team at a time. If we play our usual game I am confident we will get through the semi-finals.”
In 2011, Tuvalu did manage to restrict the Solomon Islands squad from scoring more goals as compared to their 2010 encounter. In the 2010 OFC Futsal Championship, the Solomon Islands beat Tuvalu 21-2.
The coach of the Tuvalu squad Takiao Vave on losing the match said, “I’m very proud of my boys because we have made an improvement on last year. Considering we were playing the champions, I thought we did well.”
The Solomon Islands will face the second placed team from the Group ‘A’ of the Championship. The second team from Group ‘A’ will be decided by the end of the third day.
