Solskjaer guides Molde FK to first Tippeligaen title in a hundred years – Norwegian Tippeligaen News
History was made in the Norwegian Tippeligaen this past Sunday as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Molde-FK-c39935 became champions of Norway for the first time in the history of the club. The club’s first title comes at a perfect time for Molde FK, as the end of the season also marks the club’s
centenary.
Molde achieved the feat under newly appointed manager and Manchester United legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He was appointed at start of the 2011/12 season, and has managed to achieve a magnificent feat in his first season as a manager.
The 38-year old previously managed the Manchester United’s Reserves team for two-and-a-half years, following his retirement from football.
The Norwegian mentor expressed great joy at winning the Norwegian Tippeligaen. While talking to VG, the former Manchester United man was quoted as saying:
"The club has waited 100 years for this; we have been close several times so this was well deserved.”
The historic triumph for Molde FK did not come with ease. The season did come to fairly dramatic end, as the title was heavily contested. Molde’s primary competition came from Rosenberg, who were the only team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974 which could dent Molde’s title ambitions.
The start of the season was rather difficult for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who could only record two draws and a defeat in his opening three games. Solskjaer’s stay at the club seemed doubtful after that.
However, the team’s resilient performance in the rest of the season was a key factor in leading the team to pole position. Also, Solskjaer’s great management and tactics have been widely regarded as the team’s strength.
Molde clinched the title with two rounds remaining in the play-offs. Although they only managed a draw in their fixture against Stromsgodset, a situation which put the title race back into balance, Rosenberg’s 6-3 defeat at home to Brann confirmed Molde
as Norwegian Champions.
Solskjaer further expressed his joy, stating:
''When Brann went 4-1, I realised we had done it. It was a good atmosphere in the dressing room and we will enjoy ourselves tonight.''
