I think that global warming is real. But it it isn't, to we want to be breathing in smog and toxic chemials? Tell me your answer and what you think about my question. Can you think of a way to store h2 in a car without making the trunk smaller? And some solutions to. Do you want to be breathing in dirty air?

  1. Hydrogen has very low energy density and in general is more trouble than it is worth.  As for the 'water-powered' cars that produce their own hydrogen, they use up more gasoline than they would otherwise.  That's because the energy used to break the H-O bond in water in electrolysis comes from the car's alternator, and a good deal of energy winds up just heating the water.  

    I rather liked the '85%' efficiency figure.  That would mean that you get 85% of the energy out in the form of hydrogen that you put in in the form of electrical energy from the alternator.  You'd still be using more gasoline than you would if you'd just left the car alone.  

    We're paying dearly for the elimination of shop classes and real science courses from our schools, aren't we?


  2. You are correct to not add more pollutants into our air that we breath. The hydrogen car does not need to store any hydrogen,  it creates it only when the car is running.  What a wonderful concept. --- Hydrogen on demand.

  3. I don't believe we're causing very much of the global warming we experienced up until 1998, but I agree we should stop using fossil fuels and polluting the air. There are several promising alternative energy solutions now.

    Storing hydrogen in gas form takes up a lot of space, but it's possible to store it in a metallic form or as a liquid. The best way to use hydrogen is probably to produce it as you need it, for a fuel cell or combustion to power a car or as a power source. A company named QSI Quantumsphere has a nano material that makes electrolysis of water up to 85% efficient, which may provide what we need. It may be possible to hook up a battery to power the electrolysis and produce it on the road instead of hauling a tank of it with you.

    Solar thermal plants are simpler and cheaper than typical photovoltaic cell plants, there's on in Nevada now, built by Ausra Inc. It uses mirrors to focus sunlight to boil water, uses that steam to turn a turbine to produce electricity. They can store the heat generated to provide electricity at night as well.

    In Mexico City and Beijing it's difficult to breathe due to all the pollutants and ozone in the air, which creates a health hazard just from being outdoors. The pollution isn't as bad in the US but I think we'd all be glad to switch pollution-free cars.

  4. The plants removes most of the CO2.

    There is a way to do the hydrogen but U don't want very much on hand as it leaks through most hoses. H2 is very explosive.!!!! How to make a hydrogen generator . Have zinc in a bottle and your funnel needs to go to the bottom so hydrogen can not get out there.Then as u add HCL the acid works on the zinc to produce hydrogen. There must be flame traps so that it can not back fire into your generator. This was a simple experiment in high school Chemistry. After several student have been hurt  by the exploding it has been discontinued.
