  1. 7|4x-13|=35

    |4x-13| = 5

    Then solve for both positive and negative 5.

    4x-13 = 5

    4x = 18

    x = 4.5

    4x-13 = -5

    4x = 8

    x = 2

    Final answers are 4.5 and 2

  2. 7 I4x - 13I = 35

    First, you want to get rid of the 7 in front of the I4x - 13I

    So, to do that, you have to DIVIDE from both side.

    That leaves you with:

    I4x - 13I = 35 / 7

    I4x - 13I = 5

    Now, to get all of the [x] on one side and the "normal" numbers on the other side, you have to ADD [13] on both sides to get rid of it on the left side.

    4x = 5 + 13

    4x = 18

    x = 4.5

    And of course, because of this thingy I       I, there might be a second answer.  SO, you also have to solve for:

    I4x - 13I = -5

    So you add 13 to both sides....

    4x = -5 + 13

    4x = 8

    x = 2

    Tadaaaaa! :)
