4x + 7y = 23

9x - 7y = -62

What is the solution of the system? (Type an order pair. Type an interger or a fraction. Type N if there is no solution. Type I if there is an infinitely many solution.)

  2. 4x + 7y = 23

    9x - 7y = -62

    Add the equations together to eliminate the y terms.

    13x = -39

    x=-3

    Substitute x=-3 into either of the original equations. I used the 1st.

    4*-3 + 7y = 23

    -12 + 7y =23

    Solve for y

    7y=35

    y=5

    (x,y)=(-3,5)

  3. 13 x = - 39

    x = - 3

    - 12 + 7y = 23

    7y = 35

    y = 5

    x = - 3 , y = 5

  4. 4X + 7Y =23      (1)

    9X - 7Y  = -62     (2)

    now ADD

    and you will get 13x =  -39 ( when i added i eliminated by canceling out the Y'S by each other)

    so x= -3 NOW SUBSTITUTE THE VALUE OF X IN ONE OF THE ORIGINAL EQUATION

    so 4X+7Y=23  (x=3)

    So (4*-3) + 7X =23

    -12 + 7Y =23

    7Y= 23+12

    7Y=35

    Y=5

    SO (-3,5)
