  3. 2x-5x = -14.4 -6.3

    you carry the +6.3 over to the other side, it changes from + to -

    thus

    2x-5x = -20.7

    2-5 = -3...thus 2x-5x = -3x

    then on both sides you divide by -3

    -3x/-3 = -20.7/-3

    and thus

    x=6.9
