Question:

Solve for "x" EASY TEN POINTS! Help please!?

100-4x/3= (5x +6/4) +6

BTW: 100-4x is the numerator and 3 is the denominator. AND for the second part 5x +6 is the numerator and 4 is denominator...6 is not in the fraction you add it afterward.

Whoever shows their work and gets the right answer will get ten points

I asked this like 5 minutes ago but the people got in wrong because they misread it. I know what x is (because I looked in the back of the book but I don't know how to get there).

  1. Mult by 12

    4(100-4x) = 3(5x+6) + 12(6)

    400 - 16x = 15x + 18 + 72

    400 - 16x = 15x + 90

    31x = 310

    x = 10

  2. Well with the way you stated it, you wrote the question wrong, not likely that people answered you incorrectly.

    You need to take into account the order of operations when you write problem on a message board. With the way you explained it afterwards the proper way to write the question is:

    (100-4x)/3= (5x +6)/4 +6

    The answer is:

    Move the (5x+6)/4 to the other side

    (100-4x)/3 - (5x +6)/4  = 6

    Multiply through by 12

    4(100-4x) - 3(5x+6) = 72

    Distribute

    400 - 16x - 15x - 18 = 72

    Simplify

    -31x = 72 + 18 - 400 = -310

    x = -310/-31 = 10

    Plug back in to check

    (100-4(10))/3= (5(10)+6)/4 +6

    LHS: 60/3 = 20   RHS: (56/4) + 6 = 14 + 6 = 20

    Answer checks.

    What you wrote as your original question is equivalent to:

    100-(4x/3)= 5x +(6/4) +6

  3. (100 - 4x)/3 = (5x + 6)/4 + 6

    4*(100 - 4x) = 3*(5x+ 6) + 12*6   Multiply each term by 12

    400 - 16x = 15x + 18 + 72          Simplify

    400 -18 - 72 = 15x + 16x

    310 = 31x

    x = 10

    Hope this helps.
