    Set expression in left absolute value equal to the expression in the right absolute value.

    | 5 - x | = | -x + 3 |

    5 - x = -x + 3

    5 = 3

    Since this is never true, this equation gives no solution.

    Set expression in left absolute value equal to the opposite of the expression in the right absolute value.

    | 5 - x | = | -x + 3 |

    5 - x =  x - 3

    2x = 8

    x = 4

    4 is the only answer. <==ANSWER
