1. just set each of the inequalities to equal signs:

    3=2-x; x=-1

    5=2-x; x=-3

    Now, -3 and -1 are your boundaries. Look at each realm of boundaries. If x is less than -3 is the statement true? If x is between -3 and -1 is the statement true? If x is greater than -1 is the statement true?

    Turns out it is only true if x is between -3 and -1, therefore -3<x<-1
