  1. x=-1 or x=2 or x=5

    Normally there are 4 roots but here we have

    two times x=-1 as root (multiplicity 2)

  2. x^4-5x^3-3x^2+13x+10=0

    -1,2,5 are zeros by trial and error.

    x=-1

    x=2

    x=5

  3. This is only an expression not an equation..

  4. f ( x ) = x^4 - 5x³ - 3x² + 13x + 10

    f ( 2 ) = 16 - 40 - 12+ 26 + 10

    f ( 2 ) = 52 - 52

    f ( 2 ) = 0

    Thus x - 2 is a factor of f (x)

    To find other factors , use synthetic division :-

    2 |1____-5____-3____13____10

    _ |_____ 2____-6___-18____-10

    _ |1____-3____-9____-5____ 0

    (x - 2) (x³ - 3x² - 9x - 5) = 0

    Consider x³ - 3x² - 9x - 5

    (- 1 )³ - 3 + 9 - 5 = - 9 + 9 = 0

    Thus x + 1 = x - (-1) is a factor

    - 1 |1_____-3_____-9_____-5

    __ |______-1_____ 4_____ 5

    __ |1_____-4_____-5_____0

    Now have :-

    (x - 2)(x + 1)(x² - 4x - 5) = 0

    (x - 2)(x + 1)(x - 5)(x + 1) = 0

    (x + 1)² (x - 2) (x - 5) = 0

    x = - 1 , x = 2 , x = 5

  6. Hi.

    This one is not easy to solve but the answer you are looking for is:

    x = -1 or x = 2  or x = 5

    Hope this helped!

  7. you can use synthetic division

    hard to explain it on here so hopefully the website can help you out
