    Perhaps I'm being very stupid this morning, but I can't get your problem to make sense.

    If:

    1. x+7y=2 and

    2. x=4-7y

    Then substituting into equation 1:

    (4-7y)+7y=2

    So: 4-7y+7y=2

    Cancelling out the 7y's gives

    4=2

    That's obviously not right!

    Can I please ask you to check the equations are stated correctly, and then contact me if not so I can try to give you a correct answer.

    Tom

  2. What is supposed to be between the x and 7y in the first equation?
