  1. Let's plug equation (2) into (1) to get

    (4 - 7y) + 7y = 2

    4 = 2   <--not true

    plugging (1) into (2)

    first I try solving for x

    (1)  x + 7y = 2

          x = 2 - 7y

    (2)  2 - 7y = 4 - 7y

          2 = 4  <-- not true

    next I will try y...

    (1)  x + 7y = 2

          7y = x - 2

          y = (x - 2) / 7

    plugging into (2)

    x = 4 - 7(x - 2)/7

    x = 4 - (x - 2)

    x = 2 - x

    2x = 2

    x = 1

    now plug back into either (1) or (2), and solve for y

    however you get inconsistent values for y

    leading me to believe the answer is "no solution" or this is copied wrong..

  2. These equations are either incorrectly copied or they are inconsistent (system of) equations.

  3. no solution..
