  1. -2(x+5)^2

    -2(x^2+10x+25)

    -2x^2-20x-50

  2. -2(x+5)²

    = -2(x² + 10x + 25)

    = -2x² - 20x - 50

  3. Using the order of operations you first square what is inside of the parenthesis. In high school they taught us the FOIL method for squaring a polynomial (First, Inner, Outer, Last). So first you multiply x*x and then add it to x*5 and then x*5 again and then 5*5. Then after you add all that you are left with:

    -2(x^2+10x+25)

You then distribute the -2 to leave you with:

    -2x^2-20x-50

  4. -2(x + 5)^2 =

    -2(x+5)(x+5)

Multiply the x+5 by the other x+5, either by using FOIL or the distributive rule twice.

    -2(x^2 + 10x + 25) =

    -2x^2 - 20x - 50

  5. -2(x+5)(x+5) Expand

    -2(x^2+5x+5x+25)

    -2x^2-10x-10x-50

    -2x^2-20x+50
