  1. Easy stuff (after a while)

    REMEMBER YOUR SIGNS!

    DONT DROP NEGATIVES!

    Multiply both sides by the others denominator.

    10(25-4u) = 3(5u+12)

    250-40u = 15u + 36

    Now move the 'U's' to one side of the = sign

    -40u - 15u = 36 - 250

    Add or subtract:

    -55u= -214

    Divide both sides by -55 to solve for 'u'

    u=3.89

    To check your answer just substitute 3.89 for 'u' in the original problem. ALWAYS CHECK!

    Both sides will equal 3.14

  2. (25-4u)/3 = (5u+12)/4 + 6

    (25-4u)/3 = (5u+12)/4 + 24/4

    (25-4u)/3 = (5u+12+24)/4

    (25-4u) * 4 = (5u+12+24) * 3

    100 - 16u = 15u + 36 + 72

    15u + 16u = 100 - 36 -72

    31u = -8

    u= -8/31

  3. (25-4u)/3 = (5u+12)/4 + 6

    (25-4u)/3 = (5u+12)/10

    (25 - 4u)(10)=(5u + 12)(3)     <--------cross multiply

    250 - 40u=15u -36

    250+36 -40u = 15u -36 + 36

    286 -40u = 15u

    286 -40u + 40u = 15u + 40u

    286=55u

    u=5.2
