Solving for x...with parentheses?

Ok i know how to solve for x but i don't know how to get rid of these parentheses so i can combine like terms. Can someone help me?

11x-(6x-5)=40

  1. 11x - 6x +5 = 40

    5x +5 = 40

    x+1 = 40/5 = 8

    x = 8-1 = 7
