i got a problem on my summer review that i think is mathematically impossible... it looks like this:

2(3x+6)+8=6x

whenever i try to solve it, i get 20=0. does anyone know if i'm doing it right?

  1. yes you solved it correctly.

It just means there is no solution. in other words, there is not any number that you can put in place of x to satisfy the equation.

  2. That's correct, you end up with 20 = 0.  But since this statement is never true, no matter what the value of x is, then the answer is "no solution".
