Sombrero's in NYC?

While I was there for the P.R. Parade from out-of-state, my friend and I came across this really good Mexican restaurant on 8th Ave and 48th Street I believe it was called "Sombrero's." After the WY concert we had a late dinner there, and the food was so good there we ate there the next day. First time we ate there, we left a good tip on the table, and the second day when they gave us the bill, I was wondering why it was so high.

We were late going to meet up with some friends, that later one when I looked at my repciet, I noticed they added a $9.50 tip to the bill, even though we left our own tip on the table. Just wondering why they did that? Second part of the question, has anyone ate there? If so, what did you think of the food, and service?

  1. Many restaurants add 20% tip to the bill if your party is over a certain size.  The size varies by restaurant, but it's quite possible this is what happened.  they also might add tip to every check.  not unheard of.

It's also quite possible something you thought was free wasn't - ie free refills.  most places in nyc do not give you free refills on drinks such as soda, iced tea and will not tell you this.  it's also common to charge outrageous prices for a class of soda (i've been charged 3 or 4 dollars at some places)
