Somchai Pongpaew and Wisut Artjanawat, clubhouse leaders at Khon Khaen Championship – Thai PGA Tour
The Thai PGA Tour continues as the Singha Park Khon Kaen Championship teed off today. This four day event is being contested at the par-72, Khon Kaen Golf Club, Thailand. This is a tough championship course and was a challenge for the players who teed off.
Somchai Pongpaew and Wisut Artjanawat, the local heroes emerged as the clubhouse leaders as they completed their first rounds. Both these players played well during their outing. Already, the conditions of the first round were tough. They still managed to post a brilliant round of four-under par, 68 respectively after the first round.
This was a great performance by the veteran. Pongpaew had two birdies and two bogeys on his front-nine. He recovered on the back nine as he had five birdies and only a single bogey in his back-nine. Pongpaew had a total of seven birdies and three bogeys on his score card for the day.
After having a start, he will surely look to capitalise on his first day's score.
Wisut also had a great start to his tournament. He managed to card seven birdies, but had three drop shots on his score card. The bogeys came on hole numbers 4, 13 and 14. The youngster played well, as he was holding his putts throughout the day. Wisut started off in great style by having two consecutive birdies, but had a couple of bogeys.
This was a good start by both these players. They are now the clubhouse leaders and are one shot clear off the field.
Supakorn Utaipat is one behind the leaders. He completed the round and posted a score of three-under par, 69. Utaipat scored four birdies and had only one bogey for the day. The youngster played steady golf during his round and was wayward on only one hole. He only failed to hit the fairway on the par-4, 2nd where his tee shot was off the target. Overall, he was quite satisfied with his putting and hitting during the day.
Some of the players are still completing their rounds. Conditions on the first day were a little challenging for the players who completed their rounds. At the conclusion of the first day, there might be only a few under par scores.
