Somchai Pongpaew and Wisut Artjanawat share lead at Singha Khon Kaen Championship – Thai PGA Tour
First round of the Thai PGA Tour event of Singha Park Khon Kaen Championship finally came to a conclusion today. The four day championship is being played at the scenic and long par-72, Singha Park Golf Course, Thailand. As the first day concluded, two players
emerged on top of the leader board.
Somchai Pongpaew and Wisut Artjanawat were on the top of the leader board as the round completed. They both had a same score of four-under par, 68 for the first round. Both these players are experienced as they carved their way in the tough playing conditions.
The course on the first day was certainly playing long. It was a tough outing for a few players who failed to post under par rounds. The pin placements were back, as the greens were also fast. The greens-keeper had made a perfect layout.
Pongpaew started his quest for the championship by having a bogey in his very first hole. From thereon, he never looked down. He made full use of his brilliant approach shots and marked seven birdies on his card. The veteran also had three bogeys on his
score card. This was another impressive performance by him as he took an early lead in the championship.
Artjanawat made two early birdies in the starting two holes. From the start, he looked comfortable as his putting stroke was going well on the fast greens. He had a total of seven birdies and three bogeys. The youngster was satisfied with his performance
and sounded confident of gaining a good lead on the second day.
Both these players were impressive on the first day. There was a slight wind and the temperature was on the high side.
Three players occupy the third spot on the score board. Supakorn Utaipat, Pavit Tangkamolprasert and Phumsak Saibua had a similar score of three-under par, 69 respectively. All these three players are just one stroke behind the leaders.
Utaipat was steady with his round. He looked composed and playing some promising golf shots. He only had a single bogey followed by four birdies. The youngster putted well on the fast greens.
Seven players are placed at the sixth spot. All these players had a score of two-under par, 70 and are two behind the leaders.
Nadeem Inayat of Pakistan was also among the players, who carded under par rounds. He had a moderate round of one-under par, 71 and is just three behind the leader. Inayat will be hoping to improve his position on the second day, as he looked in fine-touch
with his game.
The second round of the championship will be played tomorrow. Conditions of the course will once again challenge these players. There will be a cut-line score as the players making it through will play the third and fourth round.
