Somchai Pongpaew two shots ahead in Khon Kaen Championship – Thai PGA Tour
The Thai PGA Tour event of Singha Park Khon Kaen Championship comes to its half-way stage. Second round of the four day championship ended today as the leader board was changed. Somchai Pongpaew continued his good form on the second day and maintained his
lead.
Pongpaew has won a couple of tournaments playing on this domestic Thai tour. He took full advantage of his experience and carded a score of four-under par, 68. The Thai matched his first day’s score and now is in the lead by a margin of one stroke. It was
another fantastic performance by the veteran who was playing under pressure.
Being the leader on any day is difficult. Pongpaew held his nerves during the second day and managed to stay on top of the leader board. His round of four-under par shows that the veteran was full of confidence. He is looking in good shape for winning the
championship. This will be a great victory if he continues to play in the same manner.
The Thai Pongpaew had seven birdies, one bogey and a disappointing double bogey. He was going at a good pace, but had to drop two shots after making two consecutive birdies. The double-bogey came on the long par-5, 7th where he sliced his tee
shot. From there, he only made further mistakes as did not putt well on the green.
Overall, after two days, the veteran is quite satisfied with his performance. He is confident of putting up a great display of golf on the third and fourth day. This victory will add to his career titles. His round was one of the lowest of the day.
Two players are placed at the second position on the leader board after day two. Pavit Tangkamolprasert and the overnight joint leader Wisut Artjanawat share the spot. They have a two day aggregate score of six-under par, 138.
Pavit had a repeat performance on the second day also. He carded a round of three-under par, 69. He had a bogey start but made an eagle, three birdies and another bogey in the round. His eagle came on the par-5, 11th as his beautiful approach
shot rolled within a couple of feet from the hole. He also was putting well on the greens and looked in fine touch. If he continues to play in this manner, he can be a contender to win the four day tournament.
Artjanawat slipped one place on the leader board. He is just two behind the leader and managed to put up a round of two-under par, 70. The youngster had no birdies or bogey on his front nine. He managed to card three birdies and had a single blemish on the
back-nine. He is confident of improving his position further on the third day to emerge the leader.
Tanutchan Puaktes holds the fourth spot on the second day’s score board. He has a two day score of five-under par, 139. Puaktes trails the leader by a margin of three shots. He is still in contention as is just a few strokes behind.
Third round of the championship will commence tomorrow, Friday.
