Somdev Devvarman talks about his Chennai Open 2012 plans – Tennis News
Indian competitor, Somdev Devvarman, is yet to accomplish himself as a world class hero for his country. He is participating in the Chennai Open 2012 and will be looking to make an impact, despite his dismal performance in the
previous editions of the tournament. He is fired up to flabbergast everyone with his improved technique and playing skills.
He knows that nothing is going to simple and no one will offer him victories in the plate but he has learnt new traits, which can support his overall game play to stun everyone. Playing in front of the local crowd is a blessing
in disguise and the Indian tennis ace looks to take benefit of familiar conditions and home soil.
He has openly claimed a few upsets in the new edition of Chennai Open next month and it will be interesting to see how far this young lad can make it before someone crushes his dream of clinching the maiden Chennai Open trophy.
Anything can happen and there is a possibility that this youngster might fulfil his dream in the upcoming season.
Talking about his Chennai Open campaign for the next year, he said, “Well, I certainly hope to do well and go one better than 2009. I love playing in Chennai. The atmosphere is great, the crowd is supportive and it’s just awesome.”
He will be seen in action on 2nd January in the warm-up tournament for the new season’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open.
He knew that it isn’t an easy task at all to make an impact with such a talented squad for the tournament, especially considering the fact that two of the world’s top ten performers (Janko Tipsarevic and Nicolas Almagro) will also
be participating in the tournament. He added, “(However) it's not easy. You want to play well; the crowd wants you to do well. It's a charged- up atmosphere. So there is a lot of pressure. You just have to try and not let it get to you. That's easier said
than done though.”
Devvarman has already faced an early round exit at the hands of world number nine, Tipsarevic, last year and this was he was knocked-out by the Belgian, David Goffin. But the Indian tennis professional believes that if he continues
to play well and put effort in all his encounters, he can definitely turn the tables on his rivals.
This is going to be a very interesting event for all the tennis fanatics’ especially from sub-continent.
