Somdev Devvarman’s shoulder injury sidelines him from Chennai Open 2012 – Tennis News

Somdev Devvarman, the 26-year-old Indian player, was having a decent run in his career and was hopeful to get a win at the Chennai Open 2012. His focus on the tournament was shaken badly when he was compelled to exit from the tournament due to an injury. The
right-handed player who made his professional tennis debut in 2008 was gloomy after he announced his shoulder injury to the media.

The Indian fans were anticipating a win from Devvarman, who was one of the three local players participating in the ongoing Chennai Open 2012. In the recent few years his shoulder injury has proved to be a problem for him as it has kept him on the sidelines
on more than one occasion. He missed his training sessions and performed poorly in past tournaments.

According to Fernando Solares, the tournament director of Chennai Open 2012 the entire management is sad for this to happen as Devvarman was having a good run lately.   Devvarman told the media that, "With great disappointment, I have to inform the fans and
organisers that due to a recurring shoulder injury, I will not be able to participate in this year's event."

Devvarman played the first round of the 2011 Australian Open, the first round of the 2010 and 2011 French Open and played the second round of 2011 Wimbledon and the 2009 US Open. He has been a steady contender in his career. He has also represented India in
the 2012 Commonwealth Games where he won the gold medal in single competitions. In the same year he took part in the Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China where he won gold in the singles competition as well in the doubles match while his tennis team returned
home with a bronze medal.

For Devvarman, his tennis career has had ups and downs but recently he has maintained a good form. It is only because of his shoulder injury which has kept him on the back foot which has certainly effected his performance. In the year 2011, he had a great run
in Australian Open. For his struggles on the tennis courts, he was given a wild card entry into the tournament which was nothing short of a recognition to the Indian player.

In 2012, Devvarman was hopeful of getting a good start in the Chennai Open. He did win the qualifying matches of the tournament which added excitement among the Indian fans but then his news of leaving the tournament broke out, creating anxiety among his supporters
and his team management.
