Harding is one I can think of....certainly not illustrious. Granted, while some had little political experience they were masters in their own fields; like Eisenhower. Washington was a general and helped to lead us into independence, but I will agree another slave owner, Jefferson, had little political experience, but no one did back then to prepare them to be the President in 2008. So, WHO ARE THE OBAMA PEOPLE REFERRING TO?

  1. I concur. Washington had no experience. Great military minds do not necessarily equate to great civilian leadership. But he pulled it off didn't he.

    Tippecanoe and Tyler too.

And I am unanimous in this.

  2. Lincoln had no executive experience and his only time in the US Congress consisted of 2 years in the House.

Teddy Roosevelt was Governor of NY for two years before become Vice President (he became president less than one year later).

Most historians rank those two among the top five presidents in US History.  It is also worth noting that Teddy Roosevelt was younger when he became president than Obama is now.
