Some Short story help??

Question

I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember. I’m writing my first novel right now, but Seventeen is having a fiction short story contest and I need help-what should I write about!??! Anybody have any short story ideas??

well personally the things that have helped me write my novels were points taken up from the following ..

1. firstly be clear about your genre for example  : horror , thriller , romance and others

2. ( this might sound a little silly but helps a lot ) . you might have had weird dreams or nightmares ... you can take from there the points .. helps a lot in fiction ..

Write about whatever you feel comfortable writing about. The easiest thing to write about is what you already do, so pick something that you find enjoyable and write. If you write murder mysteries, write one of those, hopeless romances, write that, teenage angst, write that.
