I have regular Sky and want to buy a dvd recorder. Can some dvd recorders pause and rewind live tv, similar to the way sky+ does?

Basically i am asking can some dvd recorders replicate what sky + does, saving to hard drive. And then also being able to edit and burn to dvd.

Or would i better off buying a standalone dvd recorder and and Sky+?

  1. If you find a DVD recorder that has a hard drive in it, then you can possible forward and rewind the recording, but NOT the live TV stream.

  2. With a hard drive built into the dvd recorder, this will be the only alternative to having the sky+ feature of recording your favourite sky programs.  All the other freeview hard drive boxes will only record the freeview channels but not sky.  But I'm not sure whether sky is cancelling the £10 fee for using the record feature with their sky box+,  that if you are not subscribing to 2 premium channels ( check to make sure).

Find out whether the quality of their sky+ boxes has improved as it has been on Watchdog a few times with their high call out charges.

Another alternative is the HD sky box but that is it for the time being.

Don't bother with sony dvd recorders because you can't make them multiregion, what with them making movies as well.

  3. you would need a hard disk recorder like this:

as you can see from the price you may as well get sky +

  4. I think the dvd player only does it when you have a dvd otherwise most dvd players would be able to be a mimick of the sky+ box.

I think its best if you just get the sky+ if you want it. Dvd players only do it for dvds etc..

  5. get a dvd recorder with a hard disk recorder it should let you pause live tv when recording on to the hard disk.

Make sure you get something with a large hard disk ..i know sony and pioneer do up to 500gb or more...and they look superb

check sony and pioneers website ..google it to find the website

    good luck
