  1. Climate - Los Angeles has a Mediterranean Climate.  People want to live near the best weather conditions.

    Terrain - Most population densities are formed around smooth terrains or rolling hills.  Tokyo is on coastal terrain.

    Transportation - The ease with which products can be transported in and out of an area.  Cites along the Mississippi River began as transport spots for products heading for the Gulf of Mexico.  St. Louis, MO is an example.

    Availability of jobs - Atlanta, GA has a dense population due to the number of well paying jobs.

    Bodies of Water - Combines transportation, recreation, trade and water needs for a city.  Singapore is a major world shipping city in southeast Asia.
