Question:

Some bug eating my tomato's?

I have a tomato vine in my backyard and we have some tomato's on them. Well, I have noticed that something bug or something has been starting to eat the tomato's. Some of them are ripe and others are not. I've to pick them off the vine and get rid of them. What can I use to stop the bug (or bugs) from eating them. If there is something without chemicals that would be better. Serious Answers only please.

  1. If the tomatoes are on or near the ground then they are probably being eaten by slugs. Make sure your vines are kept off the ground with stakes or tomato cages.

If they have round holes in them, it is probably caterpillars that are eating them Check the underside of the leaves to see if you have a tomato hornworm. Just pick it off and kill it.

If they have little tears and cuts, then it is probably birds that are desperate for water. Put out a birdbath of water or some other source for the birds. They don't much like tomatoes but they will eat them if they must.

You don't need to throw away a tomato just because it has a hole in it. Cut out the affect part and enjoy the rest.

  2. I gallon of water with one teaspoon of dish soap and some garlics. Alternatively, mix cayenne with warm water and let it sit for a night then use a strainer. Add more water to the concoction. Spray on the tomatoes. Bugs usually dislike hot and spicy ordour and also the smell of soap with garlic put them off.

  3. Sevin dust is da best unless you want to do frequent bug patrols. what do they look like?
