How much can you pay off by sitting in jail from a bad check in Mississippi? I have a friend who has a warrant in Ms. for a $1400.00 check. I am wondering how long it would take him to pay it off by sitting in jail.

  1. The amount of the fine is up to the judge.  Your friend can talk to the City or County Prosecutor about working out a plea.  If your friend has a lawyer they'll need to include him/her in the conversation.  One thing to  remember is that there will be restitutions ordered also (in the amount of $1400 plus any other adjustments) which will have to be paid.  Your friend won't be able to get around that.

I use to work in Mississippi.
