Some crucial terminations of the 2012 season
British Broadcasting had been covering the flat horse racing since decades, and as so many careers took their final flight of the 2012 career, so did flat horse racing and BBC. The contract was extended to Channel 4. Frankel’s final race became the last
and final broadcast for the channel. In a much similar way, At The Races will have to forgo the transmissions to Racing UK, the 2014 Royal Ascot meeting will be the very first for the new contractor to cover.
When Channel 4 took over BBC after the payment of £15 million, they took rights over the Derby, Grand National and Royal Ascot.
In a statement, Ascot chief executive Charles Barnett said: "We have also partnered with the RMG courses since 2007 in the provision of our pictures to betting shops through Turf TV.”
"We have had an excellent and productive relationship with At The Races since 2004 and are most grateful for all they have done for us.”
"Enabling a large percentage of the best of British racing to be promoted by one entity and showcased through one satellite broadcaster mirrors the thinking behind the Channel 4 deal, and it should benefit initiatives like the Qipco British Champions Series."
At The Races also lost the right to Exeter, Kelso and Perth earlier this year.
However, it is apparent that the new partnership seems to be way more fruitful and such turns and twists are part of broad casting. When associations that are strong due to human relations can break away then contracts moving from one TV channel to another
are no big deal at all.
The two most remorseful terminations during the 2012 season were of the ace jockey, Frankie Dettori, from the Godolphin string and the other was among the connections of the champion chaser, Kauto Star.
Frankie Dettori opted for a free lance career after serving as the retained jockey of the string for eighteen years. Hallmark trainer, Paul Nicholls, and the owner, Clive Smith, parted ways when the eventual career option for Kauto Star was brought under
the limelight after his retirement earlier this season.
The horse racing industry has seen many associations contributing in its way and then has also seen them falling apart.
