Some people drive 38 to 40 in a road with speed limit of 50, and this pisses me off so much because i am a delivery driver and because of these drivers who drives slow other drivers have to break the rules and start overtaking and do dangerous turns in order to reach their destinations on time,

  1. I hate to sound like an old f*rt here but the answer is in the question!!!

speed LIMIT - not target - LIMIT!

We have some lanes near where I live that are national speed limit (60mph) and it is physically impossible (nevermind unsafe) to drive around them above 40mph

It is interesting the way you also put that you "have to break the rules and start overtaking and do dangerous turns" who exactly is forcing you to do that? there's only one person in charge of your vehicle - do you think that would stand up in court?

"yes your honour, I understand that by overtaking the car in front i forced the oncoming traffic off the road, but he MADE me do it by driving so slow - it wasn't MY fault!"

I don't think so do you?!

Best advice is, set off earlier and chill out a little bit - life's FAR to short!

  2. some people like it slow. lol

  3. sometimes i drive/ride fast sometimes slow . what a daft question.

  4. Take another route or you just have to deal with all kind of drivers.  I have the same problem but getting your blood pressure up does not help you nor will it change the driving habits of others.

  5. These days on a fairly long jouney I like to go at about 60mph if conditions and  lorries up backside permit. It saves fuel and I have found that instead of aboy 40 to the gallon I can get get up to 60. it does not take that much longer to do 200 miles

  6. It can be annoying, but there is no excuse for having to overtake dangerously or do the favourite white van man thing of driving right up to your bumper....if you actually sat down and worked out the difference between travelling for say three miles at 40mph rather than 50mph you would realise that you would save very little time indeed.....so dont panic.

  7. I think that people are generally slower because they're worried about fines/points from the dreaded "GATSO".  Perhaps your company are setting targets to tight to allow for proper road safety.

Some also try and "enforce" the speed limit which as your question points out is dangerous.

We've all got a different agenda in life I suppose it's down to tolerating other people.

  8. You do not have to break the rules because of slow drivers, but you appear to be saying that because you are a "delivery driver" you have to break the rules.

The rules are there because driving requires rules to keep the rest of us safe.

By the way your vehicle is not a white van is it ?

  9. Other drivers don't "have" to break the rules and start overtaking.  Driving slow isn't dangerous.  Overtaking and making dangerous turns is dangerous.

  10. i agree with you mate, they are nervous drivers, there the most dangerous i belive because they can make a sudden lane change, jump on the brakes or they drift into the side of your car while there looking over there shoulder to check there blind spot, and the ones i hate the most are the ones that sit 5 below the speed limit and sit in the overtaking lane! cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen!

  11. Some drivers aren't happy driving above particular speeds, and they don't *have* to- though drivers that are WAY too slow can get done for driving without due consideration.

It's just something you have to live with, like getting stuck behind tractors.

  12. A man after my own heart! I hate drivers who can't stick to a speed limit! Round here (North Dorset) we have loads of drivers who are quite unconcerned about driving to the road limits!

They drive at one speed - dead slow - 40-45 MPH on main 60 mph roads and ignore the 30 through villages and stay at 40-45!  And then they break at every little corner!  They aren't going fast enough to break!

Now I will get off my soap box!

  13. The speed limits are maximum speed limits which are considered on a good day on a dry road with good lighting.

Lower speeds are recommended at night, dusk, in poor weather and poor visibility.

Drivers should drive at the speed which they judge to be appopriate for the road in the current conditions.

But yes, it can be annoying when other drivers drive too slow!

I understand your timetable, and I too, had to speed when I worked as a bus driver.  However, you should remind your employer that they cannot (legally) insist that you break the law.

    Nick

    :)

  14. I don't drive THAT much slower .. but I don't usually drive over the limit .. that's why it's a 'limit' .. It's sort of the law, LoL.

But I understand what you're saying. People should at least be close.

  15. It saves fuel.

  16. You are not not forced to "break the rules"

please don't try to absolve your responsiblity just because the person in front is driving slower than you.

as a "perfect" delivery driver you no doubt know the highway code inside out, and therefore you will know the maximum speed limit is just that, a maximum, its not a guide or advisory note.

You do realise all you are doing is compounding the poor reputation deliver drivers have, don't you ?

  17. They could have old cars and cant get up to 50km/h...Some are new drivers and are just practicing. Some are senior people who in general, drive slower. Maybe some people aren't familiar with the area and have to look at the signs house numbers. Just a few reasons right there.

  18. Main reason some always have the foot to the floor boards is

they cant drive slow some find it easier to drive fast ..  everyone should have to drive  300 miles with a Queen Mary (low loader) with aircaft wings as their load before passing a test  anyone then getting a speeding ticket  should do another 1200 miles with a Queen Mary at their own costs of hiring the vehicle ,fuel, and instructors time

  19. They may be annoying but they are NOT breaking the law.  Like you said it is you who is breaking the law.

That is why they have LIMITS. And some road have minimum speed also.  But other than that, it is you who is the problem.

    YOUR WORDS:

"break the rules and start overtaking and do dangerous turns"

    Good Luck...
