  1. Things that aren't biodegradable won't naturally rot and become nutrients for plants and bugs.

The fact that they don't naturally rot generally points to them being a product of artificial human resources.

Dumping these objects is littering, as it hurt the environment.

Basically a biodegradable object is like an orange peel or dead animal. An example of one that isn't ranges from things like plastic, cans, and batteries to other recyclable items which - when left in the environment, can hurt animals.

  2. A biodegradable object is an organic* object which may be broken down by enzymes produced by living organisms. (These are generally decomposer organisms) These may include anything from the food you left on your plate at dinner last night to the paper you are writing your report on.

The problem with non-biodegradable objects and materials is that when left in an environment they can do anything from simply get in the way, or poison the area. For instance, plastics can take between 10 to 450 years to degrade, and the molecules separate from each other, before deteriorating into atoms themselves, which can poison fish and other various wildlife for prolonged periods of time.

*Scientifically, organic objects are things with carbon atoms, excluding carbonates, simple oxides of carbon and cyanides, as well as the allotropes of carbon
