b. Solid copper is an excellent conductor of electricity, but solid copper chloride is not.

c. SiO2 melts at a very high temperature, while CO2 is a gas at room temperature, even though Si and C are in the same chemical family.

  1. a. As a much lager molecule Xe has greater intermolecular forces (Dispersion forces) than Ne does making it more difficult to "excite" to the point of boiling

    b. THis goes down to the structure of the compounds. Solid Copper has metalic bonds and each atom is touch eachother alowing the free flow of elections in 3 Demensions, The Ionic compound copper Choloride is in a cryistal latice structure creating "gaps" between Copper atoms, blocking the flow of elections, after adding Copper Cholride to water it becomes a good conductor as the charged particals assist in the transportation of electrons.

    c. Si position on the periodic table associates it more as a metaliod exhibiting behaviors of both the Non-metals and the metals.

    d. BF3 is a trigonal Planer molecule, Electrons are distributed equaly around the molecule however, NF3 has an additional electron pair forcing it to be trigonal pyramidal molecule with 3 F around the base and the electon pair at the top, the election pair causes a negitive area on the molecule making it polar
