Some factors which would terrify Alex Ovechkin fans on him playing in Kontinental Hockey League
Alex Ovechkin, professional ice hockey player from Russia and captain of Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League, would have his fans sitting on the edges of the seats as he moves to his native country’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
The 27-year-old forward, who took everybody by storm when he first came to NHL Draft, as he was selected 1st overall in the first round of 2004 draft by Washington Capitals, who play in Southeast Division of the Western Conference.
Ovechkin made his debut one year later and scored 100+ points in the very first season, to become best Rookie player in the league and since then there has been no stopping for him. He soon became captain of Team Russia and led them to Gold medal win in
2008 World Championships and then the captain of Capitals in 2010.
Scoring 100+ points 4 times and being one of the top scorers of Capitals in every season, there was no way Ovechkin was going away from them but this NHL lockout made him leave NHL and go back to KHL.
And now his NHL career looks in danger and his fans in Washington would have their fingers crossed as the situation looks complicated now and it can’t be surely said if the top class left winger would be coming back to the all important NHL.
The biggest issue would be transfer from one league to another as there also have been some disputes between both KHL and NHL officials in the past and it would cause some trouble in bringing Ovechkin back from Russia.
Even if he does, there is a lot of difference between style of play of both leagues and any player needs time to adjust in it, so the Capitals’ leader would also need some. Plus, the way he plays, there are always a lot of chances of him getting injured
so Capitals’ fan would be praying that it does not happen and their player does not get hurt.
Then there are some personal relations that Ovechkin has in Russia, including his Russia team mate Ilya Nikulin and his girlfriend Maria Kirilenko, who would definitely persuade him to stay in Russia.
