The outlet on my trolling motor was a male outlet and the plug was female, then i replaced it so the outlet was female and the plug was male. After that the trolling motor stopped working and no power is getting to it. If i switch back will it work again???

My fish finder worked fine then the temperature gauge on it started saying that the water is 140 degrees or something like that. What might this be?

Also my areator stopped working and when i flip the switch i don't here anything???

Another problem is that my cigarette lighter is no longer working and there are 2 wires attached and a third is not attached but i am not sure if it is for the lighter or not??

Last question how do i replace the carpet in my bass boat??

  1. it sound like you switch wires around and shorting the battery system out. It's a DC systems not AC system. DC meaning direct current and wire cannot be switch around. I would first go back to trolling motor connection and make sure red is to red and black to black....ck your work with mult meter and have continuity tester on. Place mutli meter on to continuity part and place one test lead starting from battery red cable and other test lead to red cable of trolling motor and mult meter should buzz. if not, then your cable are cross.

for carpet, it just matter of removing trim, seat etc and then removing the carpet..it might be glue down.

  2. With the trolling motor, the male/female part should not make a difference. If you have the wires reversed the only thing that would happen is the motor would run backwards. IE: forward when in reverse and reverse when in forward. I'd check for a loose or disconnected wire.

As for the fish finder, loose or disconnected wire, blown fuse, or power was reversed and it's fried.

Aerator should run hooked up either way, but in reverse if power supply is reversed.

With all of these things it sounds like loose or disconnected wires. Get yourself a 12 volt test light and check the power supply to anything that doesn't work. Start at the item that isn't working and work toward the battery.

Carpet is just a matter of ripping out the old and installing and gluing down some new.

  3. Check wires to the male and female conn. Sounds like they are crossed.Clean the sensor that is in the water. Check fuses to areator and test for power with test light. Lighter should have 2 wires. One is grnd. the other is feed wire...hot wire. To replace carpet remove old one and clean floor of old material. buy yhe out door carpet you want and cut it to size first. Then glue it down using the proper cement for out doorsCheck lighter wires with test light to determine which is which. To check for a poor grnd connect one end to one end of grnd and the other end to where it normally gets grnd. If grnd is BAD, thelight will come on!!!!. The power will go through the test light rather than the proper grnd wire. SIMPLE EH?? Remember to do this current must be flowing...switch ON!!
