im getting into basketball training mode pretty soon, and i am a pretty good shooter, but i personally think im terrible at defense...

i can stick with someone but i cant really steal the ball, and i have trouble moving away from a screen...

any advise???

plus some extra info, im 5'7'' and about 135lbs...

im not all that big, but some small people in the nba have done great things with the proper training and preparation...

oh, and another thing...

whats better to drink after practice; gatorade, powerade, or water?

  1. good defense doesnt necessarily mean u have to steal the ball a lot.

any ways to disrupt the 1 ur guarding from shooting or passing is good defense (a good way to understand that is to look at bruce bowen's stat).  i believe ur pretty good at defense already, being able to stick to a person.  a good advise is to stick out ur arms to block the view of the ball holder to force him to take harder shots / passes.

as for the screen, in most cases, you can't see the pick unless your teammates tell u, so it is a good idea to talk to your teammates and work it out with him, like what to say when some1 is screening for the person ur guarding.

last thing...the drinks...i generally prefer water since itz the most natural, but u can seek consultant from ur basketball coach

  2. Defense wins games so its a good thing you want to capitalize in this area. Stay on your toes when playing D, and do not sweat about stealing the ball. Gatorade it re hydrates you. Good Luck!
