Hello there :)

Our family is adopting an 8 year old girl from Haiti, because I feel it is important that family be kept together - I would love to adopt her little cousin but I need to raise some serious funds in order to cover the costs! Any ideas would be wonderful and fully appreciated....

  1. Do a raffle. You can raffle a BBQ pit, a stereo. or services such as, a free house cleaning, a Saturday night babysitting. or a free lawn service. sell them for $1 a ticket. We raised a lot of money on a raffle for a free house cleaning.

  2. Well, surely all the normal fund-raising ideas are possible.  Or get a church to sponsor the child.  I am assuming you have enough to fully cover the first child's adoption?  If not, you could let someone else adopt them to keep them together.  Or, you could speak to another person or family who is interested in adopting, and maybe they could adopt the cousin, then you could stay in contact and expand your family to include them as well.  That way, the children would be "close".  Or -- ((sorry, it is the Internet!)) if this is just a guise to hope someone will pay for the adoption for you, then you might want to rethink adoption and the finances it takes to raise children.

  3. You could host a benefit dinner and dance at a community hall or legion, and charge people to come. Their entry fee is their donation.

Provide a buffet-style meal (try to get a church to cater the meal for free or at a reduced price), have a cash bar with drinks that might be priced SLIGHTLY higher than usual (maybe 50 cents higher) and the "extra" proceeds go to your cause, and have live entertainment (a local band willing to volunteer their services for free maybe?) so people will stick around and have fun. Also during the event, you could have raffles, lotteries, a silent auction, or a craft fair to raise even more money.

People hold benefits like this all the time around here to raise money for medical expenses or for families who've lost their home to a fire, etc. I think your cause is worthy and would attract a lot of people. Plus, it would probably make people feel good to contribute to such a HAPPY occassion.

    Hope that helps, good luck!

  4. try calling around and getting places to donate gift cards, and do a raffle for everything you compile.. youd be surprised how many will donate. good luck

  5. Bake sales, car wash, etc.  Set up a booth in front of a heavily populated store.  I thinik its a good cause so people should be willing to donate.
