What are some good mottos. Not ones that everyone has heard of like "Live today like you are going to die tommorow"

And are there any other versions of one like "Blood is thicker than water"?

There's "What's bred in the bone will come out in the flesh", meaning that one's characteristics are determined by one's heredity. I guess that could sound negative if you wanted. I don't really think the apple one has to be negative. I've heard them both used about positive family traits. Like most quotes, it's all in the inflection.

There's also a Spanish proverb that says something to the effect of "An ounce of blood is worth a pound of friendship".

Or, "In time of test, family is best" (Unknown).

George Santayana said: "The family is one of nature's masterpieces."

OK, I'm not that wild about either my family or my heredity so that's about the best I can offer to you, off the top of my head.
