Some guidance in creating a wireless connection?

I have absolutely no experience in this. I have a router, a USB and a wireless LAN card, a grey wire. I have installed using the CD the router and the USB into my main computer and created a network. I then put my USB and my wireless LAN card into my laptop and searched for the connection. It found it, claims its connected but Internet Explorer does not work. How do I connect?

  1. you have to enable DHCP server. Or to manually write local IP's, Subnet Mask and DNS server on every machine on your network. Go to my computer, view network connections, right-click on the connection and choose properties. Choose TCP/IP protocol and "configure". On the IP field write down your desired IP, for example 192.168.1.2 if you are using a TP-LINK wireless router. Locate your IP range on the back cover of the router. Manufacturers writes the IP configuration addresses right on the back cover on their network products. Now, to find proper DNS server address ask for it from your Internet Service Provider. Full all this fields and restart the router and the PC if needed.

Now something about WiFi. You should secure it, so nobody can connect or spy your network. The solution is to enable WPA (Wireless Protected Access) feature to encrypt data in your network, although everybody who has a machine with a wireless adapter on it will be able to join and use your network. For enabling WPA enter in the address field of your browser IP of the router configuration menu (kinda 192.168.1.1 or check on the back cover), and depending on the manufacturer look for the WiFi menu entry. You have to enter a desired key for data encryption, and use this key on every machine on your network (when a computer will find your network it appears like WPA network and will ask you the key. Enter the key and this machine will join your network).

    Good Luck!
