  1. Instead of sluggos, I like Super Flukes.  You fish them the same way but they have a lot more action.  Just a twitch every few seconds, then reel in the slack.  Bass love them.

I've caught more pike with noisy, aggressive lures like spinners and big Husky Jerks than I have with plastic worms.  Anything with a lot of flash and sound seems to provoke a response from a pike.

  2. I've caught bass on plastic grubs. I suggest getting a sampling of soft baits.

    good luck

  3. you have got to match the size and color for all plastics to really be exceptionally good. I would by silver and whites and I use the colored marks-a-lot pens to color my baits sometimes for color changes or subtleties bait manufacturers just haven't gotten around to duplicating yet. but swim baits (paddle tails) come in about every good color you'll ever need AA's, Fishtraps, Kalin's are my favorites. Double A's (AA's) are in san diego county and their order color chart is on line.....

  4. Ok,you can get any fish with any plastics cos they will work no matter what you use. There are many fishes in the water and different species like different food.If you just start with this hobby, try start with a simple and cheaper plastic but you must ask the local tackle shop for assistance.Fishing is visual so ask them to show you how and find a mentor. You could have lots of fun with getting started with the basics.Strengthen your basics first before getting into deeper water cos this might save you money.
